May the Lord richly bless both you and your children.

May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 115:14-15

On my desk is a wonderful picture. In it I’m smiling with Katie and Manoela, beautiful young women who have married my sons Kyle and Kevin. In the last year my husband Kurt and I have celebrated two wonderful weddings. Kyle married a dear friend from high school and Kevin married a delightful young lady from Brazil.

When Kyle saw Katie walk down the aisle, I saw a joy spread across his face that I’d never seen before. The same thing happened when Kevin saw Manoela for the first time on their wedding day. A part of me wanted to shout: Wait! Where was that joy as you graduated from college, your schooling paid for by loving parents? Where was that smile as you enjoyed the sun and surf of family vacations together? But then tears came to my eyes as I thanked God for so richly blessing my family, especially my children. Nothing brings greater joy than knowing Kyle and Kevin are part of loving relationships that bring them enormous love and a joy I could never have imagined.

For over twenty years family life has revolved around one woman—me. The four of us grew together as individuals and as a family, but honestly, the days revolved around one woman—me. Today the four of us are the six of us and it’s just the best. While on vacation last summer Katie even exclaimed over dinner, “Just think—it’ll be the six of us forever!” What a gift!

I marvel at God’s blessings. As the mother of two little boys, I couldn’t imagine a more precious gift. My heart grew with each passing day, each milestone, each chat. Now as the mother of two young men, I can’t imagine a more precious gift—two beautiful young women who love and adore my sons. My heart grows with each day, each milestone, each chat. What a gift!
