Pain

Pain in Life (and 2 Asterisks to the Streak!)

Those Times of Pain

Yes, I’m walking with a cane as I heal from spine surgery. Arthritis has taken its toll on my back, making the past several months excruciating, the pain radiating all the way down to my ankle. There were times I cried—in the middle of Fred Meyer, at the end of a long day, before I’d even made it to the shower. There were times the pain took me down to the ground.

Those Times with God

But God insisted on showing up—in the middle of my pity party, at the end of my “Please, God! Please, God!” prayers, in the support and encouragement of the dearest man, my husband Kurt.

My five-year walking streak now has asterisks. Two of my shortest walks have become my longest treks as I hobbled into the ER three weeks ago and into the surgery center three days ago.

Those Imperfect Times

Life is not perfect for three days or five years. Backs fail along with some knees and hips for some of us. On beautiful springs mornings clouds can gather.

Those Imperfect Times with God

And God insists on showing up.
