I’m a writer and a speaker who loves helping women of faith connect our delightfully ordinary lives to God’s extraordinary love and faithfulness.
Ordinary Lives? Real Life?
Except that our lives are not ordinary right now.
Life is has become very unreal as we shelter in place. Life is very become very surreal as we enjoy beautiful days of spring while many scramble to take care of their families amid job losses and illness.
I’m also learning to embrace the new realness (is that a word?) of our days. “Real life,” as they say.
A couple weeks ago I was speaking with someone in our corporate home office. Our connection was less than great, but not to be expected with cell service. Then I realized she was at home.
Last week I was speaking with someone else from our corporate home office who was working at home. He apologized for the barking dogs in the background. I apologized for my husband’s truck videos resounding in the background.
This week I was speaking with someone else working from home. This time I could hear her little girls squealing in delight as they played in the background.
Real life!
Real life is not a perfect connection. Real life does not come without background noise. Real life includes the laughter of children.
A Facebook meme reminds us that when the dust settles, we will realize how little we need, how much we have, and the true value of human connection.
I agree, but when the dust settles, I’m also getting my hair and nails done. Because real life for me includes artificial nail and hair color.
Just sayin…
